Full restoration of a pair of Crockett and Jones Monkstrap shoes.
This pair of monkstrap shoes by Crockett & Jones were in dire need of some attention. The shoes were covered in stains and most of the original colour and finish had faded during their years of use. Therefore, we decided to completely remove all of the old polish, colour and finish and treat this pair to a fresh coat of dye and a high shine / mirror shine. In the video we take you through the steps that were needed to get these Crockett & Jones. A summary of the process:
1. Clean off all old shoe polish using Saphir Renomat.
2. Clean off as much as possible of the old colour / factory finish using Saphir Décapant.
3. Colour the shoes using Saphir Teinture Francaise leather dye.
4. (Optional) Condition the leather using Saphir Médaille d'Or Renovateur. (Please note that Renvovateur can cause some of the freshly applied dye to come off. Hence we skipped this step in the video).
5. Colour and shine the shoes using Saphir Médaille d'Or Pommadier cream.
6. Shine the entirety of the shoes with Saphir Médaille d'Or Pate de Luxe wax. (We used colour 09. Mahogany in the video)
7. Carefully sand and afterwards dye and shine your sole edges using sandpaper (grit 130 or finer) Saphir Teinture Francaise (colour 05 dark brown) and Saphir Médaille d'Or Pate de Luxe (colour 05 dark brown). This step can also be performed earlier during your shoe shine.
8. Mirror shine your shoes using a combination of both Saphir Médaille d'Or Mirror Gloss (colour 08 bordeaux in the video) and Saphir Médaille d'Or Pate de Luxe. We recommend using a bit of our shine water as well to make life easier.
